The images are both frightening and surreally imagined. The last one reminds me of the last episode of Cosmos where Claire Patterson's studies in the 1960s to determine the age of the earth led him to discover increasing lead in the atmosphere that people were breathing since the advent of tetraethyl lead gasoline in the 1920s. It took 20 years for lead gasoline to be completely phased out in the 1990s. We don't know how much damage it did to children's cognitive abilities during the 70 years children, especially in cities, were breathing lead with their oxygen.

The excessive use of lead for sealing water supplies and drinking cups in Rome during ancient times has been proposed as a reason for the decline of Rome. The inability for governments to react quickly to scientific revelations, primarily by powerful vested interests, has led to extensive suffering worldwide and, perhaps, a general decline in intellectual survival.
