Many would argue that to not discern the bleakness of this planet’s conscience is to be living in a fantasy of delusion. For far too many, the will to act humanely seems to be waning exponentially. (Image by photomanipulation)

A Species’ Summa
by Odin Roark
Like a global caterpillar gone limp,
pools of black ooze spread beneath its feet,
the tangential disease of hatred
overflowing history’s abyss,
a chasm’s capacity breached.
As its gaze is lifted,
death-saturated smoke billows overhead,
invisible fallout about to replant patient habits
for even further generations to cultivate.
How quaint the denier’s rocking chair
astride life’s mud-packed porch,
idly absorbing another deflowering of innocence,
its ghost-like oscillations in captive continuance.
Such abides the degenerate planet’s impregnation,
seeking not abortive means,
rather awaiting the birth of more ignorance
perpetuated by the blind
destined for the deaf
manifested by even more cognitive cripples.
Lamentably…
Amidst a star-filled universe,
like a vibration never reaching its end,
echoes of a once resolute consciousness
float aimlessly atop the rancid gasping,
the seemingly impenetrable density
of history’s vacuous breath.
We're all driven by deep-seated instincts that no longer serve the same purposes in a world rapidly devolving from our activity on it. Unfortunately, too much value has been placed on consuming and gathering too much. Even those that have not and think that having more children will improve their lot are wrong, too shortsighted and ignorant to see beyond their current situation and limited perspectives.
For a long time now, I have often stated that humanity is "too ignorant" to solve our problems even though we are highly adaptable. It seems that only great crises will cause us to change. Let us hope that the small crises change us in time before the big ones come.
