Plastic Boutonnière

I peer out with crooked neck,
Shyly visible
From frayed lapel,
Or clasped in hand.

Like my homeless companion,
I just want to exist.

How perfect this marriage,
Plastic flower adorning ignored struggle,
Ernest facsimiles together,
Wanting so to be real.

Notice our smiles.
It’s all we’ve left.

If you look close it may be one of the veterans memorial poppies. Such adornments are also a symbol of self-worth. Would that the eye could see the person more so than the flower. M.True

Extremely sad, and so many homeless beings today, including far too many homeless pets, just want to exist, and far too few, even care.
