The 1% Evening Prayer

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

It’s that time of the year when without some levity, some of us might snap. Can there ever be a Philosopher King or Queen, a person capable of equating success by any other means than promoting the mass hysteria for riches as the blessed goal? (Image by Bruce K. Gagnon)

The 1% Evening Prayer
by Odin Roark

Oh success,
My virgin Goddess,
My alabaster code of purity’s darkness,
The measure of my existence…

Give me not your tired,
Your poor,
But your blessing,
Oh holy book of the 1 %.

Send me not the huddled masses
Yearning to breathe free,
Send rather these homeless tempest tossed to China
Taiwan,
India,
Anywhere but here,
Where their very presence
Impacts lifting my lamp beside the golden door.

Say not I’m a dreamer
Say instead I’m a doer
Doer of the unconscionable if you will
But still part of your beloved 1 %.

And as the 6 o’clock news announces the CEO raises
Dwell not on the Left’s complaint of fewer jobs
Remind the whiners that consumer items come cheaper now
Made more efficiently
More profitably
More expediently

You’ve come to expect the worst of the 1 %
And we’ll not disappoint.

May we always please thee,
Amen

ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, ODIN. SADLY MONEY DOES EQUATE SUCCESS AND ONLY THE FEW THAT 'SEE' THIS VAST UNFORTUNATE STATE OF OUR WORLD...ARE REALLY THE SUCCESSFUL ONES. WE CAN ONLY PRAY THAT THE EYES OF THE 'BLIND' WILL BE OPENED...BEFORE HE COMES BACK. THANKS FOR SHARING. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH...JOYCE * HIS INSPIRATIONS

Money won't buy happiness, but this prayer is a good one and says lots. The meaning is 1 per cent accurate.

Never understand why so much hate for people who have made money. When you think about it, it has been others on the other end who measures that persons success by how much money the person has, instead of the person themselves. It's the very wealthy who contribute large sums of money to charities. Maybe I'm misunderstanding this poem. People who know how to make money and keep it, yeah, I'd say they are pretty darn smart and great with math. Know some who started at bottom, worked their way up, did not inherit one bit of it. One is a family member and I do get very defensive when people judge him and think he was just born that way. He worked his butt off to get where he is and yeah, he's at the top now. Enjoying every bit of his money, it's his, he earned it and just because he makes a hell of a lot, does not mean he has to give it to people who want to do nothing but live off the government and not work. Take from the rich and give to the poor, people in their twenties who don't want to get off their butt and work. NO they don't deserve a penny of someone else's money who makes 6 and 7 figures just because they don't want to work.

That last line is incorrect… It should read, "May we always please [we]."

Once again you nailed the human condition quite precisely with all of the right words. Where did we ever come to think of "success" as being monetary? And why is it those that have money are smarter, superior, happier, less stressed? These are all myths that most seem to believe without question like they believe that everything is "preordained" by some superior being. If that is so, why do all these 1%ers claim they did it on their own, contradictory to their own belief. We all know that most of them just inherited the money and have made sure that laws and regulations allow them to keep and grow it.
