Virtual Trust

Trust is perhaps a simple virtue, but one more often than not…elusive. (Image by Laura Williams)

Poem Artwork
Virtual Trust
by Odin Roark

To not be trusted
Is to be cast
Into a darkness
Where light is never seen,
Where the beloved’s breathing,
Sleeping,
Silken skin,
Is forever never’s revenge.

Without trust,
Time places the me
Beneath covers of awaiting darkness,
Where future is dreamed,
Never seeing the light.

Those who never know trust
Delude the heart into false motion,
Nurturing beats that slowly implode into silence,
Realizing not life,
But a vanishing infatuation.

Trust
Is love’s only armor,
Whether of beast,
Or plant,
Or our species’ state of mind.

Impenetrable by arrow,
Or lance,
Or agenda,
Trust knows only conviction,
That which is right,
Knowing the wrong,
Needing protection,
Will ultimately succumb,
To its own poisoning reversal.

To wear it on one’s lapel
As one drinks in the other’s eyes
Denies blinking as an option.

Trust is virtual,
Accepting only essence as companion,
Enabling non-judgmental expectation
To be realized...sometimes.

In a world where even our loved ones are victim to the fickle nature of reality, this 21st century life gives us little to grasp and less to hold fast to... M.True

Too often, trusting oneself takes up most of a lifetime, and that by trust's nature, is requisite to trusting others. The testing never ceases, virtually or as virtue. You pass the test, of course, and administer it, too.

Trusting someone needs one to know that person so much. Sometimes it's not easy to trust even when knowing. either! way, it's questionable at times whether to trust someone you like very much. Trust must be earned.

I am often tempted to say "this is your best..." only to find you know how to top yourself. Better to let each of your renderings stand alone without comparison. I wouldn't know how to begin to compare these insightful words to anything. My vocabulary is limited to "stunning."
