Most of us have faced it, cursed it, and disowned it as we’ve learned how to embrace it.

Sublime It Is
by Odin Roark
To rouse one eye, then another,
stir slumber’s coals into warm embers,
drag fresh kindling from childhood,
sticks from puberty,
limbs from adulthood,
then rustle more forgotten memories,
await tenacious sparks,
gently nudge latent innocence,
throw in one’s tenacious demons
allow vibrant air
from updrafts fresh
to bellow it carefully,
tease flames into beginning,
then feel the warmth of release…
Such is the reward
A lexiconic sleep’s awakening,
finally providing the blank-page-whiteness
with today’s first word…
Sublime it is.
Sublime: the state of being laid under and covered with lime. A practice often used on the battlefield like in the American Civil War when there were too many bodies in the field and not enough ex-slaves to cart them off to graves and dig them.
