Humanists have been known to see things…well, differently. “The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware." Henry Miller

Nudging Enormity's Door
by Odin Roark
Awareness comes unannounced,
this glistening tether winding through the grass,
at times from branch to outcrop,
summit to sea,
sharing nocturnal magic
beneath moonlit shadows.
Often thought of as the messenger
of redwood-tall and scrub-oak-short,
of sunshine's dare,
of storm cloud’s quench,
for growing,
sometimes scorching.
Nature’s costume transparent,
or gilded in roguish armor,
its consciousness sits upon our shoulders
voicing verses of question,
choruses of caution,
harmonics in search.
Often time’s pendulum pauses…
Life’s hourglass exhausts its anticipation,
breath's stream meanders in puzzlement,
a tributary-maze to oceanic exits,
where sentient fatigue
finds charitable solace.
Respite embraced,
confusion clears,
and like new sprouts from memories' compost,
leaves eventually flutter,
rustle echoes of the past,
nurture today’s cognizance
and await tomorrow’s adventure.
Awareness merely asked to be sought,
caressed as echoed remembrance
urging evolution’s melting surprises,
to quench future’s parched courage.
The journey knows all,
for deserts come,
as oceans die,
accepting dust we were,
dust we will be.
Still…
Perpetuity finds the light in darkness,
shares its protection with the curious,
understands the bliss of questions,
especially those without answers.
With trust…
There will always be
enlightenment continuing to nudge
enormity's door a crack.
