Starting Forever

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Some poets have a knack for making flowery words work, and other poets are still searching
for the lexicon of their making. The vocabulary, the language that speaks for them, and others, is a never ending journey. (Image by albenex)

Poem Artwork
Starting Forever
by Odin Roark

To be forever looking forward
the windshield spotless clean,
a mind yielding never
to the rear view mirror.

Oh, how the norm
loves to label such
as denial,
as running away,
as guilt looking for a rock
to hide under.

How wrong.

How wrong.

We who know what’s behind us,
knows dragging such images at our bumper
is to create rear-end collision.

Who in optimistic mode
would want such an experience?

There are some of us,
you know who we are,
the you,
the me,
deniers not,
but students,
knowing what others try so very hard
to coerce us into acquiescence,
to accept all the regretful weight possible
to our already heavy baggage,
to become a sealed container,
labeled “The Past”
to become our own anchor others would use
to sink us down to a sub-level of cognizance.

But some of us have a simple retort--
an Oxford dictionary embraced phrase:
FUCK YOU.

Everyone should learn that elegant term in at least 3 other languages.

An interesting perspective, both in your lead in, and the poem. Optimists look toward the future and what new is unfolding. I'd like to think that I am part of that perspective while being respectful of where I've come from.

You the end I sense that you have received some negative feedback and you wish to rid yourself of it in the best-known way. I've found the best way to eliminate those who have some negative agenda is to just ignore them and it's amazing how they find that so difficult to accept. if that doesn't work, you're right, a simple "Fuck off!" will do.

You are so right! There are some people in this world who like to label others to their past while others are moving forward; but those that like to label others try at every opportunity to label others put anchors and weights on others and send them back to their past and prevent them from moving forward. - Believe it or not there are such kind people in this world who take joy in labeling and anchoring others to their past. There's so much truth in this poem.

Ahhh ... Odin, what can I say that others can't say much, much better. I've traveled some roads, both mentally and physically during my life. (Who hasn't?) I learned from those years, and what I learned drove me into being alone in these, my last years. And yes, I have the same attitude ... "FUCK YOU." Yes, yes . . . indeed.
