A Cherry's Patience

Is the conundrum of love an endless challenge to define?

A Cherry’s Patience
by Odin Roark

Who knows love...really?

Try as we might,
how futile the effort.

For…

Just as beneath a microscope
where a snow crystal beguiles
as it waits for nothing,
transcendence beyond its outer reality
holds true to the mystery of its inner self.

An awaiting cherry in search…

Remains aware that one's heart
knows passion's rejection,
usually finding the empty scabbard
only after the reality of blood
seems the now of forever.

Yet…

For every affectionate mistake understood,
life's crimson warrior of chance stands ready
for yet another quest,
another venture
into life’s most profound intimacy.

Might one’s “through a glass darkly”
be the I within,
the only essence human life knows,
rendering helpless the You without
as it attempts to create one from two?

Is it folly…

That love innocently seeks duality,
believing that for every touch
there is that which becomes touched,
and for every breath taken
there is a breath given?

Is not being in a state of love
but a oneness with intimate caring,
that always available presence
like rain clouds scouting what
needs nourishment?

Imagine…

Love's singular cherry as it awaits,
remembering its venturesome blossom,
wanting only its destined experience,
that affirmation of its existence
rejoicing its time of harvest as awakening
another patient smile once more.

Perhaps the answer is simpler than we’ll accept.

Mmm.

once again you have extolled perfection

yes, the answer is between the lines and demands no 'mmm'. . . the cherry's problem is in its roundness and crimson (final) completeness while its true love exists somewhere in blossoming and the petals fall. . . and this is obvious thing for the author of these lines, first of all, and for some readers secondarily ;)) Cheers, alex

I think it is your roundabout way of describing the coming of age or the loss of virginity often expressed as the cherry on top. What is love? I guess it is when a woman is willing to give freely of her cherry to a man trusting that he will be gentle and, perhaps, the father of her child. After all the talk about love at many levels, it boils down to this essence: procreation is ordained by the natural order of things, and cannot be entirely controlled by "civilized" action of others. Natural selection continues unabated. We can call it love or lust… It makes no matter.

Some very profound ideas here: "For every breath taken, a breath given." And "to make one from two." The cherry, wanting only its own destined experience. That's precisely what I want and to know that it is mine and not someone else's. A simple answer. Yes, you found it in a cherry (and in many other things no doubt judging from your poetry).
