Pricey Comb-over

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With all the zoo-like antics being played out on the campaign trail, one has to wonder if all that's left to do is laugh. Here’s my tragicomedy contribution of prosetry to add to the absurdity in politics.
(Hard to top the attached link, though.)

Poem Artwork
Pricey Comb-over
by Odin Roark

How ridiculous
those two-legged ones
leaning over the rail,
making goofy faces,
attempting to draw our attention
to their pierced this,
cosmetic that,
and superior everything.

Would that they could see themselves
trying to lure us
with tossing peanuts,
popcorn,
hot dog ends,
and especially
that Zoo sanctioned “animal food”
they get duped into paying
two bucks for.

Some of us have taste.

But, hey…

They’re only some-kind-of-human.
They don’t know any better.
They’ve been told so long
they’re special,
the reality of being knockoffs of us
seems alien to them.

Whoa!

Now, that’s a shocker…

Check out that blond-haired guy climbing over the rail,
coming down to say hi, I guess. Hey, isn’t that the mogul
fined 1.3 mil for the deaths of endangered animals?

Yeah. Word around the moat is his wig maker used hair
from a water buffalo and some of us.

Brown Spider Monkeys?

Well, aint’ that a bitch.

Hey, buddy… this pit is primate-land,
not your playpen, Mack.

What’s he got there…

I’ll be damned.

He just offered you an iphone, Myrtle.
Yeah, he’s lost it now.

But wait…

It’s ringing. Myrtle, pick it up.
Push the speakerphone button
So we can all hear.

It’s playing…yes…

That’s “Also Sprach Zarathustra.”

Cute.

Does the guy expect us to start swingin’ bones around our heads?

Pity they’re still strugglin’, treating us like monkey-freaks. What an evolution.
The shouda, coulda, woulda species still running in place.
Even us lowly ones learned long ago what that obelisk was really all about.

Maybe the genus just needs another round of evolution. What’cha think, Myrtle?

I think Dudamel and Strauss really know how to get timpanists excited.

Hey, is that toupee guy conducting… Check it out.

He’s conducting the... heavens? Man, some ego, eh?

Wonder if Kubrick is lookin’ down on this and shakin’ his head like us?

Biting, satirical, droll, and eye-opening to one degree or another. Well absorbed by this reader. For the world sitting on the promenade watching this lunacy unfold I can imagine them either pulling up a comfy seat with some popcorn cheering America's demise, or changing the channel for something with more substance. Like Kubrick said: "Be suspicious of people who have, or crave, power. Never, ever, go near power. Don't become friends with anyone who has real power. It's dangerous." Well articulated. Have a good week. r

I'd love to see this performed as a soliloquy by someone on stage with a dazed look trying to understand what this election season is all about. Great write!

Either I am behind in my reading, or you are writing (and posting) more than one poem a day. I can hardly keep up. No doubt, Kubrick is lookin' down at the craziness going on. This is quite a romp and a take off, making the humans look ridiculous, which they are, especially what we see in this political campaign. From halfway round the world, where I am, it seems even stranger. I enjoyed this. John
