Chimera Awakening

From where did it appear?

From what was it made?

Is that which we see,
true to all that we hear?

How long can mutation of heart
force subservience of mind?

And when will it end?

Today?

Tomorrow?

Or what if…

It is destined to stay,
has always been with us,
this goat head of innocence,
lion body of brazen want,
serpent tail of dread in reserve?

Some might ask…

Is mythology a mindful reset,
a begetter of symbolic answers
when honesty and principals have been consumed
by our own fiery breath of threatening fear,
claws of predatory persuasion,
and venom of slithering hubris.

Still others wonder …

As minions wallow in their solipsism
and continue to cheer the demise of truth,
will they ever become aware
of Bellerophon’s history of destroying monsters
or how Pegasus bides time well,
rides the updraft of patience,
its determinate wings prepared to tuck,
dive, and carry Bellerophon to the spearing
of evil and the return of reality
to its rightful place in existence?

If all else fails, one can hope
such mythology as metaphor
will reveal as simple guise.
