Poem Artwork
Guilt, Whoa!
by Odin Roark

Okay
This little itch
Scratch
Laceration
Fatal wound
So many monikers
But
Let's try blame

Candy store antics
Jellybeans
Quick snatch
Friends cheer
Eat
Praise
Hero
Right?

Boyfriend’s parents
Raise hell with your own parents
Blame
Blame
Blame

Adolescent fever
Impenetrable
Bullet proof
Right?
Of course
Till
Shoplifting
Almost caught

Hey
Made it

Can't tell anybody
Shit

Half the fun
A bomb now
Trip?
Sense of power?
Can't tell anyone?
Bummer, Dude

Hormones explode

Girl friends
Back seat lovers
Slippery gloss-lipped conquest
Right?

Sure
Till

Damn
Condom busts
Can't brag
Can't face up
Accountability
F*** the lesson
Don't want to grow up
No
No
No

But
now

Wallet
Full of pics
6 month old
2 year old
4 year old (terror)

Bars
Conventions
Manager's meetings
Pizza empire growing
For him
Them
What about me?

Ahh
C'mon
Divorce?
Job loss?

Yeah
That's right
Blame comes only one way
When you're suckin' hind tit the other way

So

So

What're you lookin' at?
This is my bench
My Goddamn bench
F*** Off

Me
The park
The innocent squirrel
Keeping vigil over my slobbering sleep
Starting my lessons
All over

Guilt

What better teacher
So many unavoidable lessons.

I thought you are writing about 'Merica. But then I see it's another one of your, "coming of age," scenarios. In this case pointing out all the lessons learned from engaging in risky behavior while unwilling to accept the consequences.

Then again, it certainly could be a metaphor for what is happening right now with all of these immature voters choosing to take a big risk and then learn the lesson later (slobbering on a park bench?).

This one is damn good!

"suckin' hind tit" is not the way to go. You touched on much of my life within this lines of this one. In fact, wish I'd writ/wrote? it
