Seeds of the Harvest

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Recently I was reminded of how perpetual living is, even when it seemingly ceases for some. I can only continue to be grateful for life delivering the growing up period in New York and the contemplation period of climbing in the Alps, and mostly finding a modicum of wisdom in the process. Poem Artwork
Seeds of the Harvest
by Odin Roark

With every day,
we gather a bit,
we plant a bit.

Time’s waning irrigation
renders dry many tributaries,
from high in the ethos-sphere
some of purity’s blossoms
meanders down rivulets of calm,
while certain regrets bang the drum slowly,
droning echoes from canyon to canyon.

We ask…

What of the times,
when orange blossoms fill the air,
when Alpine’s flowered reverence,
sways its season beside trickling brooks.

And lest we forget our concrete avenues,
where stanchions of glass and steel
hold mysteries aloft from lessons’
East side to West side.

We always remember those rough and tumble planting seasons,
when sunlight seems clouded
and food for flesh
momentarily begetting starvation for thought.

Yet with temperance of satiation,
we arrive at harvest time.

Suddenly, new sprouting appears,
the cycling conundrum of time blinks open again,
the Bard’s handiwork resounds
“to be or not to be.”

For such breath-held moments,
we remember darkness of sleep,
radiance of sunrise,
perpetual nature of dreams.

Instantaneously…

Harvest is one with the seed,
finding the paradox of birth and aging.

'Instantaneously' is the key word for understanding that 'harvest is one with the seed,' beginning with the end, Yin with Yang, an individual with the whole nation. What does all this is known as 'the time' -- the speed of personal realization. A suggestive work which spreads out untidily from East side to West side. Cheers, alex

Another poem of a life well lived. For those of us who ventured beyond our meager roots in childhood to drift in the wind of passion, knowledge and hopefully, fame. Only to return during the harvest years to the realization that we have much to be thankful for and began to harvest from all those years those gems of wisdom from experiences many.

I don't regret not living in the highly creative but dismally unnatural environment of the big city. Even living in suburbia today, I remember intensely and long for the wisdom of the wilderness.

A profound image thoughtfully explored, representing the eternal cycle from birth to death to birth again in seed, harvest, resurrection (of some sort). John
