Ambition
Ambition
by Odin Roark

We ponder

Natural versus man made.
We marvel at technology,
remembering youthful innocence,
seduced by adult expectations.

We bolt

Futures filled with confusion.
The imperative of progress.
Move with the flow,
or be left behind

We escape

Wondering about the conundrum,
the future unknown,
the past unchanged,
the present rife with decision.

We walk

Sidewalks beneath our feet.
Glass and metal spoils above our head.
Anxious crowds blanketing the tundra.
Never-ending neurosis to photograph.
Watering holes for catching your breath.

We run

Timeshare development at our heels,
estates, yachts, Maseratis, trophy brides,
everyone wishing to live beyond their means,
never comprehending long term costs,
the kinds slowly absorbing our oxygen,
consumption’s methodical genius.

And then…

Suddenly

“We’ve arrived!”

But where?

Donald Trump has arrived. What has all that ambition got him? A lot of animosity. The entertainment industry is so incensed that they, for the most part, have declined to entertain at his inauguration. For one who has thought he was part of the industry, kowtowing to so many, especially in his television show. It must be a rude awakening to know that he is not welcome by his "peers?"

As I recall in the 1950s. The entertainment industry was under a cloud for their leftward leanings and so many were labeled, "communist," by the McCarthy hearings--their careers ruined. I certainly hope we don't start another mistaken witch hunt and have learned our lesson.

What does living in a gilded cage with private jet planes with our name plastered all over them say about consumption?

I am always departing, I never arrive. I think that might be the answer. John

I arrived at Dollar Tree and Goodwill and found birthday cards for 50 cents, sports jackets for $4.99, and four lovely chairs for $10 each. I could not be happier.
