What Is Out There?

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

We live in brutal times where a body of people would have us give up our own thinking. (Of course there are the poor fools that can’t think for themselves, let alone seek to be informed. Do they deserve forgiveness?)

Poem Artwork
What is out there?
…that colors my inner-being at will,
…that sometimes tries to take my hand,
…that sometimes drags me across an endless stretch of rusty scabbards.

…that waits in the darkness for me to falter,
…that thinks my will is but a matter of time,
…that wonders at the pain I willingly endure to reach the end.

What IS it out there?
…that is so patient,
…as to sleep while I run,
…to laugh as I cry,
…to patiently wait with outstretched hand
…as my motion slows to a skeptical crawl
…as I wait to find out
…what THEY want me to believe is out there.

Might what’s out there be the effort of some fascist trying to play God?

I wish there were some way to ignore him, but we do so at our peril.

I certainly hope not. If so, we have to quickly come to our senses and make sure that mass hypnosis doesn't occur. Your poem is downright scary.

there is a short distance between the 'thumb up' and a buddha's gesture of calm ;)) which means 'when I feel cold I open the door; when I feel hot I close it. . .' that's how things work by the name of 'policy in a circus' or 'show must go on.' Enjoyed in both ways. Cheers, alex

I love the line: "That thinks my will is but a matter of time." I sometimes think that my students are thinking this, waiting for me to "change their grade". No doubt, a sign of the times. In the graphic, guess whose hand that is. He's given new meaning to "thumbs up". (Ah, nothing like being "a winner"). John
