Warring Disturbance

The Congress at present.

How camouflaged the hostilities,
cloaked in duplicitous rhetoric,
elegant ties embroidered by tailored lapels
sitting enfolded by kid-skin leather,
each a throne to the ego needs of narcissism,
a platform to glare down upon the subpoenaed,
where testimonies from lifted chins
become the fodder for contemptuous rule.

Whether in committee hearings,
or their chamber of lairs,
how un-clever these wannabes to some of us,
these puppets whose strings are manipulated
by avarice and fright,
where re-election is top priority,
not the governing problems of a nation.

Such must society endure
from the politically armored fortification,
where gerrymandered votes
give many a limited time
to continue their warring behavior,
political tactics without any endgame strategy,
dishonesty serving up platitudes of self-aggrandizement,
all at the cost of people’s trust and tax dollars.

My, how gullible we have become,
endorsing representative chicanery and ambition,
ignoring the cost for such dishonest behavior
being borne out by society’s continued ignorance,
a glazed-over peering at a well-costumed, undeclared war
where smiles, glad-hands, and popularity
remain the chosen disguises
for greed, hatred and contempt.

Welcome to leadership’s Theatre of the Absurd,
the stage we created with unawareness and indolence,
where its stars play out their Grand Guignol acts
with aplomb and determination
thinking they will realize another curtain call
in the next election cycle.

Huh?

Such continues America’s longest running show of nothingness.

A roadshow careening down our highways,
