A Wordsmith's Battles

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

After 8 years and many iterations, having Echosis now published is both a relief and a bit of discomfort. I think I "finished" it, but lingering in the back of my mind is, "or did I just abandon it?" It is arguable that the question is unanswerable, for as most of us know, the battle never ends, even as wars occasionally deliver victory. (Image by Miro)

Poem Artwork
A Wordsmith’s Battles

Amidst a darkened ether,
determined sparks from tired eyes
emit lightning thrusts,
collapsing pages into heaps,
words often committed to
knowledge in free-fall.

Patience holds fast
against Opinion's quicksand,
Belief's trip wires
aware that Conceit's trap
lurks in the shadows.

Lesser conflicts,
fought with honorable intentions,
recede forgotten now,
mindful of battles lost and
wars yet to be fought.

Ink upon the clearing spreads rapidly,
even as tendrils of enemy efforts remain coiled,
hidden beneath unctuous praises
ready to ambush,
prepared to spring open
today's bombardment
of Distraction's artillery.

Sprint we must
across Error's mine-laden fields
seeking not escape amid the commonality,
but respite among the enlightened.

Flooded with Tenacity's blood,
Mind's drenched landscape
bids calm passage beyond,
rising through wind swept memories,
lifting spirits above seductive doubts.

Evacuating Words cry forth tears
hopefully satiating Reader-needs with resolve.

And then…

The Wordsmith awaits tomorrow's battle to begin.

Such is the way of "The Wordsmith"! You know who you are!

Love ya!

If Echosis is autobiographical, then the work is never finished until you are finished as a writer. Based on the years since you finished it, I would say the story… Continues.

I'm constantly in admiration of your illustrations/images with your daily offerings of wordsmith soup for lunch.

Whatever you can envision,
You can write.
The pen is mightier than the sword,
Let the words take flight.

I think a writer's greatest enemy is himself. We can sure torture ourselves.

as an old saying runs, 'He who knows other men is smart; He who knows himself has insight. He who conquers others has strength; He who overcomes himself is mighty.' Another saying 'I'm a writer but not a fighter' is not true. A writer is a bloody fighter; that's for sure. Cheers, alex
