Rain Knows Only Rain

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With so much of Nature’s wonder to ponder, why are we bombarded with so much anti-Nature living. Nature never promised us a rose garden. Political rampage convinced us of that. Yet…we invented rose garden, begging: what have we given in exchange?

Poem Artwork
Rain Knows Only Rain

So simple,
Creation's reflective miniscule
Gathering force at will,
Sprinkling nourishment ,
Sharing its cleansing,
Wanting only growth.

Such is the mission
Of Nature's most immaculate:
The raindrop,
Carrier of so many purposes.

Inculpable, its essence,
Being not of calamitous desire,
Yet collected by forces undesired,
Often Tropical disturbance
Or typhoons
Hurricanes.

So faultless Its guilt.

We admonish it presence,
Water spotting our car washes,
Spoiling our vacation weekends,
Plummeting our gardens,
We ignore its due respect .

Perhaps...

Embracing the small creature-less life
Might enable this E. T. of Nature's family,
Dreaming only of making our lives better,
A supportive existence among
Its dedicated landscape.

Still…

We argue its overwhelming presence,
Even as its ancestors of Arctic and Antarctic
Plead for genealogical respect.

We continue to deny its nemesis,
Man's natural demise,
Trying to hide behind inept rationale.
For some…

So easy to deny.

For all,

Impossible to avoid.

We are non-existent without rain.

And…

Some levity: what would the Winter Olympics do without the realm of rain/hail/snow?

Oh! I had to smile at that last line. totally in contrast to the the rest, it brings the reader back into the moment ...and you are, of course, quite right. What 'have' we offered in exchange for our coveted Rose Garden!
Self-centered attitude perhaps ...or Toxic Waste, or Greed, corruption and resentment? Such a travesty, when we could have made so many, much worthier, offerings.
One of your finest, Odin. Rx

So true about the Winter Olympics! True as well is that "We are non-existent without rain.". I remember when it was legal to collect rain water in a barrel. My mother and I would use it to wash our hair as it is such "soft water" and leaves the hair renewed and healthier looking. Excellent poem again, Odin!

Love ya!

Rain is the natural recycling of freshwater, even from the sea. Our demise would already have happened if the weather did not continually recycle water from evaporation.

Rain nourishes nature, and by doing so, us. When we believe literally what the Bible tells us, to "go forth and multiply," and "take dominion over all the creatures of the earth," we are on the path to our own destruction.

When we let our fear and warlike nature of our lives to withdraw from the rest of the world in some kind of selfish right to free rein, we are doomed.

since our bodies consist of water (some say of 70% or so), here, I'd say 'rain knows the human beings as its own essence.' Guilty or not, but we are an integral part of this blue (Water) planet. Cheers, alex

How true, we argue against or complain against nature (and its raindrops) at our own peril. We couldn't live without them.
