The Why Of It

How quickly the imagination of our youth is systematically made impotent by those who succeed in controlling those struggling to maintain a modicum of integrity. (Image by elephantjournal)

The Why Of It

Why is it
the artist is often reduced invisible to those with no preference?

Are the mirrors not reflective
of that which passes before them?

And is there not a virtual vortex of creative energy
abounding ceaselessly before all such reflective surfaces

for everyone?

Why is it
that consciousness remains asleep in those of pedestrian desire?

Is not the polished silver for destiny's feast but refractive reminders
available to all, even those who will not remove the shades of fear
and look beyond the mirrors of their self-centered selves?

Why is it
gluttonous appetites of complacency’s empty nourishment
always create imperfect mirrors for the colorless ethereal bliss of ignorance?

Why is it
palates of taste are void of the desire to understand the palette of life,
where brush strokes of nature’s endless rainbow exist to bathe and feed
the starvation of purposeless minds once born with the innate endless imagination?

Why is it
the heart often languishes in the mindless exile of blindness?

The why of it all?

Today’s newborns may never know.

I always thought there were two kinds of people. Those that take and don't contribute. And those that contribute and make. But I'm beginning to believe there is a larger third group that simply follows the program, muddling through life, and neither contributes nor takes anything from life, except, perhaps the next generation of offspring.

I believe you are driving at the pressure that parents, peers and schooling puts on individuals forcing them into the matrix of the working hierarchy where their creativity and inventiveness is totally squashed and never seen again even though it may have flourished in early childhood.

I don't get the last line. I would think that every generation has a new opportunity to break the bonds of mediocrity.

In sum, why is it that we don't let imagination do its job? You have raised some important points here, rhetorical questions all, that leave pondering behind in their wake.
