Exposures in Waiting

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Experiences are there for us to derive teachings. However, many are so overwhelming to the heart and mind, they remain abstract emotions, negative parts of life reluctant to be developed as positive lessons. (Image by Laszlo Nagy)

Poem Artwork

Exposures in Waiting

In the brain’s darkroom,

many partially developed issues remain in limbo,
often fading to a gradual blankness.

How disturbing these hidden suppressed images,
experiences of a life in progress,
all while one’s living breath becomes shorter and shorter.

How confusing at times,

these recorded emotions of one’s sub-conscious registry

refusing to be fully developed into latent images of consciousness
that might provide lessons to help prevent future misfires.

Such is the mind’s nemesis,

this ever-active shutter continually foisting an overabundance
of impressions into the ever-countdown to

the overcrowded graveyards of yesterday.

Then again…

Perhaps Loss has its own purpose,
destined to keep certain experiences

as ghost-like obstructions hampering survival,
all to be eventually buried among

other accumulated threats to sanity’s guarded dark room.

Of course…

There is more than one perception

of that innate flash-back shutter

that never seems willing to take

a rest from its haunting nature,

knowing we humans will continue

to be of insatiable sensorial appetite,

consciously realized or not.

Yes! Live life to the fullest! Go with your desires. Don't hold back! That's what's in my "dark moon"! You go about describing life and its course so well, Odin!! 'Love it!

Love ya!

This poem reaches out and catches me. A one hundred percent aimed directly at my heart, nay to my whole. You were completely within yourself when you said, "In the brain’s darkroom, many partially developed issues remain in limbo, / often fading to a gradual blankness." I'm saving this in your face poem. Thank you.

I guess we all have our secret nature, that it revealed, would put us in another set of circumstances altogether. I believe that's why some people even hide their identity while on the Internet for fear of later repercussions from their, seemingly harmless, activity.

Fortunately my secret nature is mostly something that I can reveal quite candidly without repercussion and that makes me sleep well at night not worrying over it.

No one finds those hidden trap doors of the mind quite like you, Odin. Yes, if the unexamined life is not worth living, then the half examined life is, at best, half wasted. And that likely is about as good as it gets. Perhaps a civic-minded entrepreneur could offer half-off burials? (I'm forcing half a smile...)
