White Dust Perpetuity

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

We sometimes forget that with all the modernization of life, certain youthful experiences should never be abandoned, but thought of as landmarks in one’s personal history. (image by pinterest)

White Dust Perpetuity

What history lurks
below blackboard surfaces,
wedged in creases of eraser felt,
in between folds of holding trays?

How pristine we wiped clean
the dark window’s surface,
making ready the day’s learning,
future archives of youthful bygones.

Like stars burned out,
disintegrating to dust,
time’s ancient knowledge
now finds its preservation
in ones and zeros.

For a few…

The latent residual
remains black and white chalkboard teachings
ingrained in rainbow dreams
struggling to be realized
in our hectic digital world.

Still…

For many,
yesterday’s simple magic
remains a flotilla of fog-like memories
desiring not to disappear,
its white dust recollection holding fast
as uncut jewels in the mind’s treasure trove,

a bounty of what was, is, and can be.

That dust was horrible. Slapping those erasers together was murder and you'd breathe it! All of that knowledge just puffs in the air and onto the floor........sad. Today? Fabulous words that never ever go away!

Love ya!

Yesterday's simple magic" held more mystery of what was and can be than all the digital pluses and minuses our electronic world can create. Astutely penned as always.

It can be theoretically said that anything that is written on the Internet will remain there. Sure, servers fail. But servers are often backed up. And many are archived. Whereas, in my day, I could fill the blackboard twice in an hour of class. Those improvised diagrams and words quickly reduced to white dust at the end of the period, never to be seen again. Unless I redrew them, only to be disintegrated again. But those same concepts, coded in a language accepted by Internet browsers, can become a source of learning for the world over forever. No dust.
