Unclaimed Baggage

 

Anecdotal scrapes and scars remain affixed

to well-worn baggage left behind,

its history of remembered images

documenting places, times, emotions, remain the past,

weathering through time’s incessant clock,

the descending sands of an hour glass in perpetuity.

 

For certain memories are never forgotten,

only left as one’s surreal hauntings,

sealed with destiny’s combination locks,

recall-tumblers left to Nature’s normal erosion,

the bygones of wounding experiences longing for closure,

yet, the shores of time ever-willing to cover,

can never bury the unclaimed foreve

It inspires me to write a poem about a woman who puts all her old possessions into a suit case and gives it a toss into the ocean because she has learned how unnecessary all that baggage was after all.

You made me think of life and how it moves forward leaving much behind, in a sense, unfinished or unfulfilled. I think of all those papers that I meticulously saved a few years ago as a possible heritage. With no children, and unless I become famous, those remnants of my early life will probably be some rarely thrown out as carrying too much weight to save.

Such is life… So much is lost… Unclaimed.

Sounds like a poem I could have, should have written, with all the unclaimed baggage I have left behind in my travels.
