Nurturing Our Forever

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Today’s mass shooting reminded me of how tenuous, yet perpetual, living aspires, even when it seemingly ceases for some. I can only continue to be grateful for life delivering the growing up period in New York and Hollywood, the contemplation periods of climbing the Alps and Sierras, and mostly the gift of disciplining my time to reflect and write. Nurturing Our Forever

With every day

we gather a bit,

we plant a bit.

Time’s waning irrigation

renders dry many tributaries,

yet, from high in the ethos-sphere,

some of purity’s blossoms

meander down rivulets of calm,

while certain regrets pound the drum slowly,

droning echoes from canyon to canyon.

We ask…

What of these times

when orange blossoms fill the air,

when alpine flowers sway

through seasons beside trickling brooks,

while shadowed urban concrete Avenues

of glass and steel stand as stanchions,

guiding a density of man through an urban maze,

a gamble that the route chosen will render happiness?

Regardless of the path chosen…

There is always present

seedlings’ rough and tumble planting seasons

when sunlight seems clouded

and growth of flesh and mind

struggle for nourishment.

Yet with tempering satiation,

we arrive at periodic cultivation rewards

and suddenly new sprouting appears,

the cycling conundrum of time blinks open again,

the Bard’s handiwork resounds,

“to be or not to be.”

For such a mind-harvesting moment,

we are indeed fortunate

to remember darkness of sleep,

perpetual nature of dreams,

and radiance of sunrises,

allowing us to once again

see, hear, touch, smell and taste reality’s harvest,

sentient man’s nurturing of perpetuity’s maze…

forever.

By the time we grow old enough to think thughts as you so eloquent have done here, the question, even then, have pretty much been paitiently been concerning the thereafter. I enjoyed this, and since I am destin4ed to that therafter sooner than many of those who read this poem. We do, we think, we are!

Life is a cycle and goes 'round and 'round until it reaches its destination.....somewhat like the wheels on the bus. Until our first realization of anything did we ever know what was coming? Oh! You've got me thinking! Watch out!

Love ya!

We are each given a life to live. There is always danger around the corner and death at the end. We can focus on trying to avoid that expected danger around the corner or even try to avoid our eventual death, or we can wrest from life all that it has to offer, particularly in nature and in the great accomplishments of man. You and I have chosen the latter as evidenced by this poem. We are living life fully until it is gone.

The world always belongs to the next generation, not the last wasteful and destructive one.

I am encouraged that there are many youngsters out here who will take up your tending of the future - so now we have a(nother) murderous example to get us off our 'old West' mythology and, as the killer himself wrote, "I am sick of thoughts and prayers - when are you going to do something" - One of the Oaks dead escaped the Vegas killings a year ago - I pity us when the young get organized and start looking for We The People who think so little of their lives - fine poem, Odin - I am certain we do not need to empead so greatly our children's 'growth of flesh and mind/struggle for nourishment" ...

What a fine and timely poem, "mind-harvesting moment" as you said in the poem, where we can take stock and remember all those things that enrich us and make us who we are or could be. Excellent.
