Stand Walk Run

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

As the big ball in Times Square descends, that reflective time of year countdown hastens. Some are reminded that there is an indefinable transcendence to wisdom. Some pursue it. Some ignore it. Some know It. (Sculpture by Matteo Pugliese)

Stand Walk Run

Wisdom rises…

Even as feet feel not
The groundswell.

Wisdom knows…

And It thinks to advance
Ahead of time,
Where obscurities occur
With fitful irregularity,
Forging fearful signs,
Some lurking in the fog,
Others brazenly blocking light.

For even as feet sense not,
And shadows know only to hide,
Rats and giants stalking beneath bird and branch,
Morphing into reality at will,
Satiating appetites' demand,
Caring only that reason prevails.

Obstacles appear…

Wisdom continues to stand and walk,
Steadying against shadowed walls,
Prepared,
Determined.
For such a state understands,
Even as it sometimes limps,
The journey remains
Its quest for light sans shadows.

Wisdom…

Runs with its experience of
Water,
Fire,
Bone,
Weapon,
Tool,
Man,
Passing its sagacious baton

To the next thinker at the wait.

For learning knows well how to

Awaken the heart and mind to

Stand, walk and run,
Always aware that to leave the mind unchallenged,
Is to recline in submission,
To succumb to ignorance,

To retreat and become another of

Humankind’s discomfiture.

Your words make me realize just how challenged my mind is! I love the way you paint the picture of wisdom being passed on. So very fine!

Love ya!

And among the most outrageous pretenders to wisdom
are those who bounce between dogma and heresy--
asserting bunk as truth while declaring those who
reject them and their utterances as heretics.

Wisdom is the willingness to see the world differently than everyone else. Otherwise, we tend to continue to make the same mistakes over and over again that wisdom breaks.

John H. says it all:)

Stand Walk Run...a great reminder...and an apt warning.

Blessings in 2019.

Ah wisdom, that rare commodity, may we recognize it when we see it. A fitting poem to start the new year. Have a happy one.
