Petal Remembrances

Some may ask

From where did you grow?
Were rivulets of love offered you?
Did moisture nurture your heart?

When cut,
did blade upon blade
compassionately affect the separation?

Perhaps you didn't notice,
But...

Tears were shed with your departure,
as siblings not yet ready,
our fragrance had little chance
amongst the sadness that day.

Moments rare…

Having to view your leaving
from behind petals barely parted,
longing to join you.

We grew together,
even though of different color,
different breeding,
different cultures,
sharing side by side
with Mother Earth.

Now…

You have little opportunity left,
save Nature's gift of survival,
as vase water will rise into your loins,
yet time will wither your blooming.

Indoors…

Lean you will toward

what sunlight may exist,
as I keep faith that
clouds will not shorten your stay,
that Man's smiles,
deep breaths,
gentle touches,
such will give you solace.

Remember…

There is always hope
this short experience of the world
might be preserved between pages,
offering something beautiful,
memorable,
just as our awakening
each morning to life's luminescence
made possible that day you lowered your head
in sacrifice to allow Sun's light

to continue giving my own petals life.

Remember that morning?

I miss you now.

But…

Hopefully we will once again
be with each other in spirit,

as petals shared between pages
for poets' remembrances yet to come.

Beautifully expressed hope of enduring, shared love. "Lean your will toward..."
Yeah.
That's the only way to really live this journey on earth. Together. In spirit.
Thanks for sharing.

What a brilliant personification brought to life in such a delicate way! I mourn the fact that we have to kill the very best in order to please our need for fresh flowers. I much prefer them to live out their lives and not be killed for our vanity.

Wow! A very tender, moving poem of loss, remembrance and hope. Ignored appreciations, indeed!
