Things changed in the 20th century. Mobility gave us freedom to leave our communities and families to live in far-flung places, connected only by letters, brief telephone calls, and occasional visits.

The advent of the Internet age in the 21st century gave promise of bringing community back together. While it certainly probably has improved close family ties, the distraction of the constant up people and change of technologies has left many people isolated even with the power to communicate.
