Language Quest

With so much to derive from a single word, is it not puzzling how little time is spent today with reading and writing of extended thoughts, ideas and observations beyond the 280-character pastime? (Image by pinterest)

Language Quest

To be at one with the words we write and read
Is to appreciate more than mere definition.

For does not a lexical feast tease the intellect,
Akin to the salivary nature of hunger,
When morsels of perceived gastric comfort
Trigger stomach sounds of flirtatious want?

Where is it stated communication is unequivocal?
What prevents the mind’s eye to free associate,
To carve tributaries of free-flow additions,
To make the valleys of verbal tundra inviting
Toward the reward of a peak’s thin-air high?

Oh, to be open for fresh discovery,
To welcome the twists and turns
Every trail to learning’s higher reaches provides,
To look hopefully around the soft curve of every syllable,
The rock-like nature of strident consonants,
And the ever-welcome foreshadowing of verbal revelation,
Dedicated to reward aches and pains of tenacity’s patience.

I, my friend, have been wrting since grade school. It came natural to me, and I am sure I will be writing until the end.

Although I never did well on those verbal sections of standard tests, perhaps because of my more mathematical, left brain thinking, I nonetheless feel inclined to write profusely, especially since I left one finger typing for this voice system that allows me to express freely like you do.

But I find so many of my contemporaries barely lift a finger to write, even if they had higher education. Perhaps because writing in the workplace is so foreign to freelance writing. But I would venture that all those years of English teachers berating students in class has something to do with so many unable to write… Or at least think they can't write.

You raise a good question, that it will not be answered by technology that forces us to more and more divide our time into short bursts of multitasking, making us people of few words.

Wonderfully expressed! Love "To look hopefully around the soft curve of every syllable," Yep...that about says it all. Music to my eyes.
