Hate and white supremacy continues to grab the headlines as terrorism stays alive and well. Leadership seems to be exercising more of its narcissism, hubris and irresponsibility. Thus, some questions of conscience come to mind. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

"?"

What

curls creation toward the fire,

while Nature gently lowers flower petals to earth?

Why

does those of untamed passion

lurch and pull attention for a moment's sake?

When

will sounds of honesty's alarm overcome deception’s lure

of sweet nectar sliding defiantly past unconscious lips?

Where

is innocence of life to celebrate

if too few open minds admit to their learned discord,

choosing rather to condemn truth

as somehow the survivalist’s weakness?

How

will this perpetual delusion of instant gratification

resolve its conscious denial of long-term sacrifice?

To never know the durable love of peace is to…

Forever grieve mistakes’s path to greatness.

Accept disintegration of principles as necessary.

Isolate one’s regrets as uncorrectable.

Suffocate the tenacity of truth.

Embrace the darkness of ignorance.

Or…

"?"

before we drown in hostility’s wreckage.

Those who believe in "right" must be strong against this storm we find ourselves enduring yet growing stronger because of it. Bravo!

Love ya!

I don't know Odin, but from where I sit I don't see nearly as much as I have seen in times past. Hope I am right.

A true view of the state of leadership. Not only advocating the kind of supremacy thinking that propels politicians into office, but the actual carrying out of policies that allow this kind of despicable behavior to flourish, while denying it.

Two periods in history come to mind. The 1930s intolerance in Germany that led to Hitler and the rise of fascism. And, the 1930s in the United States, where a New Deal, gave the average working man a slice of the pie. Cashed in on after a horrendous war that took everything United States had in its bank account.

This is why we need art...poetry and questions. To become more than we are. Thanks for the encouragement and the reminder.

Odin,

I believe we are already drowning "in hositility's wreckage" but we must continue to question, as you eloquently and so intelligently expressed in your poem, diligently day in and day if we are to survive.

Thank you for sharing what I believe is on the mind of many today.

Jeanne
