Tongues Afire

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Unbridled passion often leads to a place where our innate need to do good finds itself flaming. The wait for such occasion to cool can often lead to principled positive expression. (Image by pinterest)

Tongues Afire

The searing heat,
eruption's inner core,
quaking like fissures of
anger,
jealousy,
hate,

and anxiety.

Emotion chases after fuel
consuming passion's very life force,
only to reach a cliff where sparks end,
embers float helplessly,
ashen efforts evaporate.,

The flaming voice,
ever recanting,
hiding from rebuke,
knowing words can
destroy,
heal,
empower,
or remain idle.

Volte-face festers now,
like Leper lesions of the soul,
unhealed self-deprecation,

finding tomorrow’s warming dawn

and a ray of hope for self-forgiveness...

maybe even betterment of choice.

I believe this is true for many people who have hot button personalities. I find that I am more likely to become depressed and suppressed rather than lash out when conflicts become too great to bear. On the other hand, I find that passion can drive one to higher creativity like yours in writing this insightful poem.

Nicely crafted poem and I enjoyed many of your uniquely phrased descriptions. The subject manner is a hefty one and you have approached it well. I appreciate that you end on the possibility of a positive note.
