Shields and Clouds

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

There are times when mistakes seem so obvious, yet such epiphanies sometime arrive too late to rectify. Rather curious that Nature so often has safeguards for living compatibly with surroundings’ unpredictability. (Image by pinterest)

Shields and Clouds

To notice Nature
Is to know the tulip's heart asks for little,
Its petals upon sundown
Folding shield upon shield
Over innocence.

The sun,
Also of patience,
Remains willing to allow,
Understands clouds of coolant,
Nature's roiling emotion,
Occasionally needs to vent.

Humans,
On the other hand,
Know less of endurance,
Too occupied with the now,
Ignorant of perfection's infinite plan.

Like a child's first steps,
We wobble through life's forward movement,
Paying little attention to personal shields and clouds,
Becoming instead,
Duplicitous cripples,
Unaware we're but habits of illusion
Wobbling still further,
Until...

You hit the nail on the head when you said humans are not patient enough . . .

Perhaps if nature orchestrated our lives, they wouldn't get so messed up. I really enjoyed your thoughts on this, Odin!

Love ya!

Oh would that we could be like the flowers, the birds, the bees, instead, we enjoy a consciousness that readily becomes a "self-consciousness" leading down a path, as you suggest, to "duplicitous cripples // unaware we're but habits of illusion." So well conceived.

Try as we might, man will never master nature.
