Severing Earth
Like a chainsaw nightmare,
housing developments shave away natural vegetation.
Fresh water sources are severed and replaced with oil companies fracking.
Animal species, once finding forested comfort,
Confront malls carved throughout landscapes of freedom
Where natural water flowed,
now render rivers on fire with waste and chemicals.
Boundaries are being cut away for humankind.
Alas…
Right behind the land,
the blood and flesh of life,
sky awaits its demise,
when we will pay dearly for oxygen,
as uncontrolled population makes it impossible
for technology to keep up.
Such might be earth’s apocalyptic disappearance,
gasping for air while greed keeps the blade of ignorance razor sharp.
Your poem strikes at the heart of the problem. You are probably right. The air may have to be fouled before the movers and shakers of this world realize what they are doing.
