Toxic Rabbit Hole Flatulence
Future chilling depths await
these Armani suited pockets of gold
wandering freely with gilded blinders,
while gasps for oxygen
rise and fall
with tides
of black hell eruptions.
No similes here,
just once heavy nets
raising rainbow glistening catches
for bellies to feed
may once again be empty.
Nature's pictures
framed in granular white
an ocean’s clear liquid survival for all
now risks the murky darkness
inside greed's junkyard fence.
Creatures small,
creatures large,
watch from below
as sunlight is swallowed
by waves of sludge,
drilling breaches making helpless
the strangling innocent
buried alive amidst
suffocating black.
Useless historic hearings
where the old,
the corrupted,
the amoral bend over further
with lobbied ears to hear about…
Tomorrow's next toxic rabbit hole.
Such massive probes placed by
greed's robotic arms become
the “now’ of change
the “yesterday” of reason
the “ tomorrow” of avarice.
For lest we forget the ill-quench of greed,
more disease of mind multiplies,
escapes,
cheers on from towers high,
while humanity's conscience sinks beneath
to become yet the crust of more black thirst
for the covetous.
How much more foretelling
do future children need
as hearts become stone,
blood streams become digits,
squares,
circuit chips,
for tomorrow's costly realization?
For although born of today,
life risks ignoring water,
air,
flesh,
and yes, earth,
as mere memory for an extinct tomorrow.
Indisputable…
Snake oil academies
continue to grow amongst weeds,
producing the same greasy liars,
flammable cheats,
and would be corporate carny-folk
we habitually watch,
even as all signs say—Beware!
For watching
is black thirst's wager,
their gotcha default swap,
their leveraged demise,
sleeping humanity’s tectonic shift.
Yet still the ocean struggles,
the fish school away,
feathered friends avoid,
while certain mammals sadly weep.
And what say we?
And now as your poem laments, our administration has put in place leadership that defies scientific finding with the promise of get-rich-quick exploitation of previously off-limits public lands and national treasures. What kind of insanity is this? Short term greed and uncaring concern for the well-being of us all.
