Just Being

Might part of our societal problem be that too many people spend more time in a delusional state of who they think they are, rather than spending needed time in accepting who they really are? (Image by Kidwell)

Poem Artwork

Just Being

Mountains and oceans

will live happily ever after,

knowing they are stone and water,

erosion and weather,

yin and yang.

Oceans don’t complain.

They tide high or low,

Pressure released.

Mountains reject weakness.

They suck it up,

hold their strength tight,

occasionally send an offspring

to the valley floor.

But resent?

Regret?

Foster bad moods because

they might not have the highest peaks?

I think not.

It seems humans reject,

rather than accept who they really are,.

even as Nature having its temperaments

doesn’t long to be something it’s not.

Sea loves being water.

Stones feel the kinship of rock.

Sun comes up.

Sun goes down.

Interesting…

The vast majority of life thrives on just being.

Sea water, a molecule of hydrogen and oxygen, mixed with sodium chloride and other molecules and elements, along with rock, made up of many minerals and metals in mixtures of various kinds, are inanimate and have no life, even though, pictured as having life in fiction and fantasy.

Humans, on the other hand, are part of the struggle of all life on the planet, trying to survive the whims of geology and the weather, much of life may seem as inanimate as sea and stone, but underlying, say under the microscope, it is a seething mass of conflict at the highest level. We humans are the inheritor of that conflict. How we handle it, is a test of whether we are intelligent or not. Unlike inanimate objects like sea and stone, we can just, "be." We would quickly die.

There are so many different sides or parts to/in each of us, depending on what we're doing or who we're with, that it can be hard to know who the "real" us actually is. A big part of me is still just a kid, and I never know when he will make an appearance.

I understand your message, and it is stated so well. Trying to be someone you are not is foolish. But striving to be someone with a little more understanding, more accepting, more tolerant, even more loving is the way out of just being who you are. That is different from your theme, but it's a first cousin to it. That is not a critism, just an afterthought.

Ah . . This, "They tide high or low, / Pressure released." So very much as humans ride lifes' ups and downs. Excellent!

I like the way you try to find answers in nature from unasked questions. I so agree, nature and all its elements just be themselves, while we, in our limitations, want to be something we are not. Very insightful and thanks for posting this "food for thought".
