Recycling Self

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

How easy it has become to consume the new, discard the used...the experienced modes of usage, the tried and proved helpmates of Need. But, “want” supersedes far too often. The gift season picks up steam in November, culminating in Black Friday after Thanksgiving, then the marvelous “After Christmas” sales. These two months eventuates the quintessential consumer wasteland of the year. Would that the mind and heart were as voracious in seeking comfort for self and others. Alas, the dumpsters, not the recycle bins, will overflow. (Image by pinterest)

Recycling Self

How common to recycle…

bottle,
cardboard,
can. .

How rare the regard for pleas from…

mind,
heart,
memory,
also wishing to reprocess anew.

To arouse the sleeping heart…

is to thrust its comfort-beat
upon new rhythms made aware,
ensuing musical notes of clarity
not yet upon the staff of boundaries,
and affording dissonance where only
harmony's familiarity once reigned.

To revisit memory…

one’s brain offers bygone experience,
wiser tools of perception,
scrambled dog-eared indexes,
cross-referencing fact and fabrication,
allowing waste to fall free,
encouraging truth to persevere.

To sort through mind's many strategies…

discounting some,
discarding others,
dismantling exhausted cogs that advance little

the unknown begging at the door,

is misunderstood by many.

The smothering effect of excess ultimately becomes garbage

How aware those who…

like the winged flights on high
weaving today's nest from yesterday's exhausted remnants,
know well that the destiny of permanence is but to replant

where one’s burnt forest once thrived

ad wishes to flourish once more.

Can anyone deny that Nature knows best the secret of recycling?

We as a people will renew and recycle the thoughts and actions that have taken place in this world. We see Mother Nature reclaiming what is hers and all this garbage will be found in 2,000 years by a new people. The forests will "flourish once more."! I love that line, Odin!

Love ya!

Reminds me of the well-known adage: "There is nothing new under the sun." As you aptly point out at the end of the poem, nature him/herself knows best and has been recycling for years. Just ask the trees, rivers and oceans of the world!
