Invisible War

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

With science proving still further of matter’s endless cycle and mystery, there must be more to our transitioning than the hucksters and proselytizers would have us believe. For now, there's threatened time to imagine that threshold-moment and appreciate life as we know it… for now. (Image Getty)

Invisible War

Once…

Upon wind-furrowed journeys of waves unseen,
Our dreams glided above their levitation,
Visions sought not isolation,
But welcomed minds willing to risk,
To fall,
And to accept baggage weight
As part of gravity’s will.

Deep within…

A rational body
Awaited storm’s end,
This transport of fear,
Its stop-overs avoiding numbered squalls,
As gusts challenged sails adrift,
While keeping focused on the destination,

A solid ground of normality.

We resisted defeat…

Retreating into unreal safety,
Seeking safe air,
Embracing the void,
The peace promised if only we would obey,
Abide,
Acquiesce.

We asked…

What is this promised lantern of light

Astride pendulum’s fulcrum,

Forever in circuitous dance
Treating our resistance and denials
As recreational tolerance?

Time came early 2020…

The gale quieted,
Invited our nod,
Allowed us to hover,
Ever so close,

Ever so secure,

We thought.

There it was…

The lowering,

The landing,
The embrace,
The graceful revealing.

How glorious was the light,
Surrounded by the past disappointments,
Even as we were at last
Who we wished we were.

Yes…

Once there was but natural behavior,
No adornment,
No false witness,
The shadows of threat,
Security adhering to caution signs.

And…

Life’s anemometer has gone off axis,
Delivering us into the uninvited tomorrow of today,
Twisted delusions with “shelter in place” as shackles.

Such is today’s invisible war raging out of control.

You have some striking lines in this poem, as usual: "Retreating into unreal safety // seeking safe air // embracing the void // the peace promised if only we would obey." Perhaps in embracing the void, we can come out the other side.

I am a positive thinker.
Our glass is made of gold and diamonds.
We drink from the BEST cup of life.
As the privileged minority of the world...
We have NO earthly IDEA
what's it's really like to live under
REAL poverty and strife.
Amen

Yes! I feel like I'm "Major Tom"! Reality is changing! Hide, Odin! YOur words express so well this shock that is such a disaster! We're cutting down the lungs, the rain forest, of the earth, trees that clean the air mean nothing to deep pockets! ....................!!!!!

Love ya!

Jane
