Rain Drops

Nature never promised us a rose garden. We invented that. And what have we given in exchange? (Image by Pinterest)

Raindrops

So simple
Creation's reflective minuscule
Gathering force at will
Sprinkling nourishment
Sharing its cleansing
Wanting only growth

Such is the mission
Of Nature's most immaculate
The raindrop
Carrier of so many purposes

Inculpable its essence
Being not of calamitous desire
Yet collected by forces undesired
Often Tropical disturbance
Or typhoons
Hurricanes

So faultless
Its guilt

While we admonish its presence
When spotting our car washes
Spoiling our vacation weekends
Plummeting our gardens
We ignore its due respect

Perhaps...

Embracing the small creature-less life
Might enable this E. T. of Nature's family
Dreaming only of making our lives better
A supportive existence among
Its dedicated landscape

Still

We argue its overwhelming presence
Even as its ancestors of Arctic and Antarctic
Plead for genealogical respect

We continue to deny its nemesis
Man's natural self-destruction
Trying to hide behind inept rationale
For some
So easy to deny
For all
Impossible to avoid
Raindrops

Perhaps we value rain but ignore the raindrops. I for one love rain and that comes from having lived for so long in the desert. Here when it is cloudy and rainy (about once or twice a year), we call it "good weather" not the proverbial "bad weather".

Whether too much or too little, rain provides varied life from the driest of deserts to the wettest of rain forests. And the rain is distilled water with a speck of dust in the center of each drop to give it a little mineral flavor. No other process on earth create so much pure water as the rain. Without it, we would be lost. When we foul water so easily we tend to forget this natural process that cleans water for us. Except for our coal burning plants that create acid rain and the radioactive rain of nuclear plants melting down, the water is free and pure.

As I started to read I remember Miss America, she was only Miss New Jersey when performing for us at the University, a distraction from author Alex Haley's main address, Suzette Charles sang Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head in a way that sent chills down my spine. Like raindrops pitter pattering on a puddle or on a tin roof, there's something magical about the feeling.
