Maturing by Shadows

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Trying to make sense of it all sometimes reveals unexpected rewards, those moments when the obvious becomes unavoidable, an epiphany unexpected.. Laughter is rationed, begging pause to recognize real joy is often smothered by the everyday darkness of conflict, the often-misunderstood personification of learning. So true the maxim: what you resist persists. (Image by pinterest)

Maturing by Shadows

Experience carries forever the joy and burden,
yet our hubris assumes possession,
even as war identifies nightmare,
and birth reveres unrealized dreams,
we carry on as if mirrors never become cracked.

.

Occurrence without imperfections
realizes but a moment of fantasy,
when Time allows eyelids to close,
inviting respite before inordinate awakening
reveals the obvious once again.

Man fears flames,
even as ignoring same,

fuels the fire.

Who among us truly knows Understanding's mysteries,
its perpetual push and pull,
ebb and flow,
brightness of light,
compelling darkness,

infinity's whisper of silence sublime.

Maturing by shadows,
our ethereal companions,

faithful to a fault,
ever ready to forsake our resistance as worship,

anxious to be the playful jester,
if only we would lighten up,
allow occasional light to expel the safety of shadow-living

.

Such begs maturity to step through the shadowy fear

and experience one’s destined light.

It's not eerie rather comforting to write and post a poem, and then to read yours that sets the stage for my own. I'm glad our wavelengths were synchronized, otherwise how could I have discovered what I was trying to say? That's my interpretation, and I'm sticking with it! Great poem, Odin!

The interplay of shadow and light in our lives is unmistakable, and yet we mix these things up, something not recognizing the light for the shadows or that the light causes the shadows, as you rightfully say: "our ethereal companions, faithful to a fault." May they ever be enlightening.
