Images Evolving

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Some of us have grown up with cameras, others have saved images in their mind. Some of us have been fortunate to experience both. Some of us have projected beyond the images. And some are tethered to only their own image. Sad. (Image by Sarolta Ban)

Images Evolving

So many open and close moments.
Camera after camera.

Eyes finding maturity.
Year upon year of aperture openings
As one’s heart-appendage.

Such exposure
Parental eyes will see,
From birth’s moment,
Firstborn’s head emerging,
Taking his first gasp.

The swaddling covers,
Big boy sleepers,
Toddler snowsuits,
Children’s Sunday-go-to-meeting dress up,
Pre-teen jeans,
Rebellious trendies,
All passing so fast.

But first…

A second boy,
A playmate,
A friend for later,
A rival for now,
Knowing not the bond,
Only brothers understand.

All sired by an only child,
A questionable father,
A self-critical learner,
Often discovering love through pictures,
Making them laugh,
Cry
Wonder.

And so…

Snapshots grew from film,
To digital,
To the archival storage of the mind,
Where deterioration
Ran side by side
With defiant aging.

Ahead,
Days would pass,
Where time would come,
To sleep,
To find nocturnal memories
In one’s dream-weavers’ forever,
Revealing a daylight dimming,
An archive of snapshot memories struggling.

The point,
The Focus,
The click of so many moments
Would become images often gasping to stay alive,
Fading into a boding horizon of a final sundown.

How many grandparents,

Older parents,

Younger children with health issues will succumb to disease,

Rendering the collage of archived images

Possibly beyond one’s sentient grasp.

Such might birth the inevitable next chapter

Of collective consciousness,

Of cosmic vibrations,

Destined for one’s next iteration of existence.

Be they self or external,

Organic images are forever evolving,

For that is the nature of materiality,

The continuance that knows no end,

Only emergence.

Now when I look at old snapshots, I wonder why we didn't write who was in those pictures. My memory fades faster than the pictures.

Like the poem, the camera sees all within its frame and captures the mood and spirit, images "grasping to stay alive" indeed.

Love it, Odin! We are ever-evolving—informing, deforming, or transforming. Snap those pictures while we can... They fade all too quickly.
Emergence is our hope and prayer.
Have a blessed weekend.
