Regardless...

Well, you can watch the circus of the RNC convention or pay attention to the mental virus that a certain party continues to foment… kind of a perpetual “ keeps on giving moment”… yeah… There will be much to argue about this incident, and no one is a saint… but, c’mon… “Police have said that they were responding to a domestic incident. Neighbors said there was an altercation between two women and that Blake had been trying to break it up when officers arrived. Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the family, said in a statement that Blake was “simply trying to do the right thing by intervening in a domestic incident” and that police shot Blake in front of his three sons. – Washington Post. - Police in Kenosha shot Jacob Blake, a 29-year-old, multiple times in the back on Sunday as he entered a car with his children inside. The incident was recorded on video, and the footage quickly went viral, becoming the latest in a string of shootings and other uses of force by police that have prompted outrage after recordings spread widely.” Washington Post

Poem Artwork

Regardless…

To ask one’s children to wait for him

To mediate a domestic quarrel of two women

To attempt explanation to police

To walk

To reach the driver’s door of his SUV

To start to say to the children, “It’s okay…”

To have seven shot into the back of unarmed black man point-blank

To awaken in ICU

To have one’s kidney and liver penetrated by bullets

To have his colon and intestines removed

To have suffered an additional arm wound

And to be paralyzed from the waist down

Perhaps temporary

Perhaps permanent

Too early to know

To be black and treated inhumanely by police

Begs the quest for humanness

Regardless…

There seems to be endless perpetuation

Of sadness in our species sorrowful attempt to be human

What crosses the person's mind that does these things? From my own experience, Police Department's are filled with criminal element that is often not discovered until it surfaces.

The standard white person will tell you flat out, "I'm not racist." But that very same person will social distance themselves from black or brown people, and be the first to suspect what they think is a suspicious person someone who has intruded on their psychological space that they don't even know they possess… Centuries of hatred/suspicion/fear and dread. Subliminally passed down through family and friends.
