Air
To avoid going adrift
A sailing craft casts anchor
As air…
I’m feeling that way now
Seeking a way to stay afloat
To not drift into toxic history
For you, my human partner
For you, Mother Nature
We have been co-dependent
Since our planet was born
Yet…
Time has eroded our relationship
And while Mother Nature attempts to ride out the storm
And hold fast
Hominid hubris continues to profligate life
To fill my existence with toxins
Be the burning of fossil fuels
Or the torching of the Amazon
While politicizing climate change
Seriously endangers my fragile temperament
And now…
You seem bent on allowing a virus
To infiltrate my domain
Cling to me
Your lifeline
While you ignore simple prevention measures
Of distancing and masking
To mitigate the enemy
To stifle its proliferation
So dear humans…
Be aware
I may not have long to provide you
With health and life
Is obsolescence what your species have come to?
