The Friend I Never Had…
My friend had never appeared,
The one I sought for so long,
The one I dreamed of philosophizing with.
The one to walk and talk the night away,
Forgetting hours.
So many days I walked alone with my dog,
Often pausing at a corner.
A look here.
A look there.
Not even an imaginary companion
To fill the gap.
Such a conundrum,
This appearance idea,
Trying to critically think through
The world we see in our head,
Verses the one we deal with daily.
So difficult to tell apart
When searching for that special friend
To debate the dilemma.
Heraclitus and his “unity of opposites” theory
Goaded me constantly
Trying to make me remember more
As I stepped on the dogs paw.
For what reason
I knew not,
But you yourself appeared lost
Stealing a glance
Enticing my return of attention
As just missing the rough,
You careened back across the path
On your rollerblades.
Only gone for a spell,
For you turned out to be
The friend I never had…
Later.
