Such a conundrum this past year has dealt us. Yet, for many of us, there is a compelling answer…. (image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

"?"

What

curls Creation toward the fire

while Nature's seduction gently lowers flower petals to earth?

Why

such untamed passion,

we lurching and pulling matter for Moment's sake?

Will

sounds of Honesty's alarm overcome temptation's lure,

even as deception's sweet nectar slides gently past Man's lips?

Where

is innocence of life to celebrate

if too few open minds admit their learned discord,

choosing rather to condemn truth

as somehow harmony's weakness?

How

will this perpetual delusion of the momentary

resolve its unconscious hourglass of irony?

Forever

grieve what may have been greatness.

Accept

disintegration of so little.

Isolate

the banishment.

Suffocate

the truth.

Embrace

the darkness of ignorance.

Or

"?"

It is now the 21st century. We are well in. But our aging population seems stuck in the ideals of an earlier generation that needed to grow up, once it learned the symptoms of this disease… Conspicuous consumption.

I have called this century a title I got from Arthur C. Clarke, Childhood's End. Let us hope that ignorant doesn't bring about that other name, Armageddon.
