Apprehension Seeking

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

- A gentle reminder that to not be in the moment is to lay prey to the drags of the past baggage and the anxiety perpetual of future mindsets. Being able to give thanks for what one has at any given moment…is a gift, as little as it might be... Image by Pinterest)

Apprehension Seeking

So tenuous the obvious

Those moments

Lived in the present

Wandering not the past

Or anguishing future dreams

When before us

Each minute can fill the mind

The heart

The body

With sentient gifts

Where air

Water

Land

And Nature

Is all around us

For thought

Feeling

Touching

Tasting seeing smelling

With often but a simple

Intake of breath

To arrest such appreciations

If only we would try

If only we might follow

Horace’s injunction

“carpe diem quam minimum credula postero…

Seize the day, put very little trust in tomorrow.”

Beautiful! Fantastic, Odin! During this pandemic, the rush rush days slowed a lot. This gave so many to be grateful for each day they were well, I know I sure was! I noticed many doing gardening and going for walks. One day at a time for everyone to be grateful for the smallest of things.

Love ya!

There must be something in the air. Hands in the sky. Feet
on the ground. Hope is jumping all around. I don't know about
you, but I'm buying a lottery ticket.

It might be overused, but it tells me that every day I have left is precious and not wasted with trivial pursuits. In a way the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus have given people much introspection and for many, changed their routine from mindless socializing to thinking about what they can do with all that time that they are not just interacting over the same old, same old.

So each day now I try for a higher peak in poetic expression, a dramatic moment in a story, or to write something that will go viral in a meaningful way, both inspiring and teaching others.

Seize the day, indeed. It is very hard to live in the moment and requires concentration. The mind takes us elsewhere. Insightful poem.

'Dead Poets Society' 1989. I remember how popular the phrase got back then after that movie. For a while it was as overused as the word 'racism' is now. Still... experiencing the fullness of what’s around us while it’s still here, not living extravagantly or blowing up our lives for better ones, and, no matter the circumstance, choosing to see the good and return to our default state of happiness, is good advice. So... go out and smell the flowers and write something. Thank you for sharing. Enjoyed. rlc
