Changing Faces

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Just a contemplation on the way we create our own reality, and especially the relationship with our face.. the relief map of our lives. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Changing Faces

Making the face we get

starts with amoretto cheeks

beneath storybook eyes

silken strands draped across the brow

curious noses

innocent lips

Upon canvases so pure

strokes the brush of time

dips into the palette of reality

layering change upon change

Colors

some untainted

others muddy

Drying

Cracking

Flaking

What of these faces

One’s personal artwork

now retired to Life’s attic

propped up on walls that shelter memories

when faces knew not mirrors

expressions were for their own sake

and manufactured masks

 were only reserved for make-believe

To think of our face

as the indelible memoir

of whom we were

and are

is honesty

Everyone could use a dose of that elixir

while mana awaits

You certainly have charted enough time to have been observed the transition. So, too, have I.

I am curious to what you meant by that last line, as well. But one thing is for certain. If we did not die, our faces would eventually become grotesque. I have seen some of that in old five generation photos where there was little or no makeup and people generally lost their teeth.

Yesterday, the beautiful, light-skinned black woman honored for being still at work at 100 as a park ranger showed how she still retained beauty in spite of the ravages of time on her face.

Indeed, the progression artfully and interestingly laid out. The face really does say it all and we cannot hide from it. So well conceived.

Sounds very personal, and is appreciated by this reader as such. "While mana awaits" is a curious thought Kent. A generalized supernatural force or power that may be concentrated in objects or people? Perhaps you can develop that thought (if you are so moved) in a future poem. Thanks for sharing. r
