Wired
Long ago,
Something,
For it couldn’t have been someone,
Lured me to a seat at the game,
That remains compulsory years later,
Still void of learning the rules
Or finding who the winners or losers are.
Even as I obsess over shadows
I cast about the space
Like a man awaiting the doorbuzzer
Or phone call,
Chanting to himself
That it will ring,
That it will buzz,
That the anticipation will arrive.
Somnolence resounds like
The bottom depths of the abyss,
Save for the sound of cards
Being quickly shuffled
Making me twist around
To an otherworldly creature careening off the everywhere,
Its ominous wings flapping like cards
Too wired to sleep…
Like me,
Long ago.
Ron
somewhere between the tired and the weird guy
And too often sleep was not my friend.
