Pondering the Door

Being alone has certain rewards. It also has consequences if isolation is for misjudged reasons. (Image by pinerest)

Poem Artwork

Pondering the Door

Everyone has a small room

Tucked away for emergencies.

Most are in the back

Furnished with chair and table.

There is usually a faceless entity

Who unlocks the door

Escorts you in

Then exits

Leaving you there…

Alone.

Some are fortunate

With a thin ray of sunlight

Seeping through a cracked blackened window

One’s communication partner

Each time it slides through to stopover

But falls quiet quickly

As it has other visits to make.

That’s when one realizes

Light serves beyond mere exposure

A double entendre

Of edification and enlightenment

Even…

Giving you permission to

Vacate such self-imposed limitation

Shut the door tightly

Even the option to lock it.

At the end of this, it seems the ‘option to lock it,’ might be locking ones’ self out of the small place of chair and table. I like that I don’t know if it is locking in or locking out. Either way, it is a cozy/cold/warm/safe/quiet/noisy vanishing from the nonstop river of life that I get from reading this. A welcome retreat, or a self-imposed ‘time-out.’ It makes me want to know who the ‘faceless entity’ could be. ~~ djl

I think of that back room is a place where will keep secrets we will never divulge. Some not even to our closest communicator. But we can never lock them away permanently when they keep reminding us that they are there.

I love being alone. But when the opportunity to come out and greet people comes around, I don't hesitate. No need to be anymore recluse that I already am. I found that apartment living is one of the aloneness places that exist.

The thin line between solitude and loneliness. It's all in the perception of it and how it is handled.
