Timid Friend

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Although there is much to be pessimistic about in the world whose reality that can’t be denied, optimism is there for those who muster the courage to accept hope as a tough road to hoe, but one that can deliver one to a smoother terrain… often called effort. (Image by pinterest)

Poem Artwork

Timid Friend

Hope visits often

Reserving as she does

The space beyond the bars of despair

Peering in on me with

Fearful expression

Yet beckoning I follow

Like a false guard standing

Truthful eyes watching

Her lips whispered peace

Her hands urged escape

As I wept

She sang

Courage seeming to dissolve the bars

Shadowing light disappeared

Hope became the trusted expectation

Guiding me through the maze

Of thorns and rock surfaces of threat

How rewarding

This stepping forth

Void of fear

Allowing my timid friend

Entrance into my mindscape of caged apprehension

Indeed, we certainly live in times, not for those of faint heart.
We do need courage and hope as an acid to dissolve fear and fears allies.

I really l like your caption summary — optimism’s smooth terrain being ‘effort.’ I really like that. Optimism and effort = caring, in my thinking. And caring takes courage, too. Great theme. Hope reserving space between bars of despair is plenty good, too. Using the word ‘space,’ often a Zen reference, spaciousness, consciousness. I find a property of elevation solidly conveyed in this writing. The mood of uplifting spirit notably follows a series of darker-feeling of futility writings of yours. The pendulum swings, doesn’t it? Good reads have that kind of diversity, inhomogeneous. I like that. ~~ djl
