Two to One

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Everyone has their moments of hurt, but when it happens in the overwhelming crush of the mind and heart… what then? “ If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were.” Jonathan Livingston Seagull

Poem Artwork

Two to One

How delicate the balance

The tenuous nature of two

The independence of one

The struggle to merge

And then…

Illusion appears

Fantasy takes over

One thinks its oneness can become two

Trusting that honesty

Integrity

Dedication and love will prevail

But reality sometimes differs

When has human life granted safety?

When has taking chances been a sure bet?

When was there ever a time

When surety was constant?

Yes…

There comes that time

When one must let lose its ties to two

When the independence of freedom

Must run its course

And hearts must endure

But…

Why must a death-like impact

Be such a shock?

Oh, why must it be so painful?

Yours is the first anything that really touched and was able to actually identify heart break and yearning. I've found that you don't know someone until you live with him/her. Then, the truth comes out that you wish you knew before you had ever met that person. "Crazy little thing called love........" "Queen"

Love ya!

Indeed, you have touched upon a most trying subject, the prospect of intimacy and its preservation. Independence is fine, so far as it goes, but what about the power of intimacy. An introspective poem searching for answers.

A writing of immense substance, Odin. And you have gathered the essence of the whole with this. Choice of definers — ‘tenuous nature,’ — ‘One thinks oneness can become two,” that concept being totally potent. This one so wise: “….one must let lose its ties to two”. Plenty of ache in this — “death-like impact.” ~~ djl
