Grace

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

For many, the long journey to one’s twilight years arrives without having created the denouement of unresolved personal battles. There’s still time. (Image by Dreamtime)

Poem Artwork

nd treacherous fissions

Grace

Oh, how subtle the seep of consciousness does find its escape

from the bloodletting of inflicted lacerations

upon the overworked heart and mind’s

struggle to correct the wrong steps.

Arms flail at life’s reservoir of weathered experience

scattering tearful regret into

overwhelming tides of shore’s containment,

where purging the long-contained control of acquired

tickle-down awareness becomes stormy passion overflowing.

Eventually…

Flooding fissures of time’s patience become

deep-within eruptions of guilt’s wrongdoings.

Thoughtless urgency to escape the inevitable wounding

that dishonesty’s little white lies

can deepen into wider and treacherous fissions

that rapidly erode integrity’s urgency

to remain in its containment

of long-held principles.

Duplicitous sleight of hand

fractures templates of protection

rendering a bombardment of survival pressures

overly saturating the temperance rising to its breaking point.

Undulating depths of despair churn

into a tsunami of passionate cries

wanting but to find relief

from the roiling need for grace

wherein peace cradles the wounded soul.

that rapidly erode integrity’s urgency

to remain in its containment

of long-held principles.

Duplicitous sleight of hand

fractures templates of protection

rendering a bombardment of survival pressures

overly saturating the temperance rising to its breaking point.

Undulating depths of despair churn

into a tsunami of passionate cries

wanting but to find relief

from the roiling need for grace

wherein peace cradles the wounded soul.

I see it differently than Ron, by finding it a progression. Beginning with subtle seep of consciousness, to flailing arms and tearful regret, then flooding fissures, deepening fear and dissolve. The power of the lines is in the progression, for me. Even beyond the ‘regret’ in stanza 2, the whole culminates in despair and lands those last two lines — the collapse. Those last two lines are gorgeous, “roiling need for grace” the word ‘cradles.’ “deep-within eruptions of guilt’s wrongdoings.” Enormous agony, that. ~~ djl

While the individual phrases seem to make sense, when they connect with the others they are not coming through clear as your earlier work did. Until you start connecting with your audience, clearly and state,

Ron
