Somethin'

by Odin odin@aflx.com — Read all 3,869 poems by Odin odin@aflx.com

Recalling a Jack Kerouac movie, I was struck with how parallel creative people find themselves, generation after generation. Might the challenges of creativity know not separation of time or generative changes? What if time is vertical, merely a choice of when and where we choose to reside, all happening at once.

Somethin’

Will you be my somethin’?

You know…

An engagement,

A vessel of life to exchange with

A piece of living that won’t mind I’m alive.

Will you be my somethin’?

A touch that says I’m okay.

A breath of oxygen to resurrect one’s life once known.

The sound of a voice

Compassionate for the one who listens

With a heart that hears sincerity… or not.

Will you be my somethin’?

A person of inner-beauty

That can survive a foreigner’s thought

Suggesting you are but a remnant

Of your once beautiful body,

Not knowing there are no remnants

To a resolute soul.

What I wouldn’t do

For that person,

My somethin’,

My honest vibe

Connecting with truth

That cares not for any and all of somethin’s nothin’

That is only into one’s now,

One’s authentic self

At

Any

Age of life.

"A piece of living that won’t mind I’m alive." As precious as life itself to have a "somethin" that has compassion and is glad you are alive. If we have only a very few or even one such person, we are most blessed. A beautiful, soulful poem, Odin.

Begs for a connection with another… A somethin' that one is missing without having. Poignant.

But your title immediately flashed me back to that wonderful Beatles song…

A tender and evocative testament to reaching out to someone, making that vital connection with another that we all want and need.
